I’ve had my horseback roll for a little less than a year and couldn’t be happier with it. I slept in it every night for 5 months in my “summer home” (an unheated tool shed on the ranch I work on in central Wyoming) and have tested it out thoroughly in the field. It’s nothing like sleeping in a polyester coffin you’d buy at a camping store in the sense you can actually move around in it, but it’s compact enough to tie on the back of your saddle without getting in the way. I’ve always just put my bedroll on the ground as the heavy canvas shell does a great job keeping moisture out and saving you from hauling a tent or additional tarp. I know it says this bag is only rated to 32 degrees but if you put a good wool blanket in there you’ll be perfectly warm to WAY colder temperatures and it won’t add any noticeable bulk when rolled. I just finished a trip (October 29-November 2) in the Black Hills in South Dakota and was perfectly warm at night, even without a fire. I’m not completely sure how cold it got but one morning I woke up and the pages of my paperback book were stuck together with frost and my water bottle was just solid ice. I slept like a baby on the ground with a couple saddle pads for a mattress.

Absolutely one excellent bag! I do have a suggestion for two options, an option for a left hand zipper and an option for a zipper on both sides. I would not have any other sleeping bag but this one if you add a wool blanket it keeps you toasty below freezing easily.

Thanks for your feedback. We do have left hand zipper available upon request. While we don’t stock the lefties it is simple for us to reverse our pattern and usually only takes a couple of extra days to insert the request into our production schedule.

      All the best!
